Distinguished Service Award for Diabetes Care is given once a year to people who have demonstrated distinguished service to the residents of Orange County in the area of diabetes care. This person is selected by a committee of key partners in the Diabetes Prevention and Control Program of Orange County.

Marty Irons, R. Ph., C.D.E. receives the 2005 Distinguished Service Award from the Diabetes Prevention and Control Program of Orange County -

The Diabetes Prevention and Control Program of Orange County will present the 2005 Distinguished Service Award for Diabetes Care to Marty Irons on November 5th. This award is presented to a professional in health care, who has made a significant impact on people living with diabetes. It recognizes professionals with a long term commitment to the residents of Orange County, who have this condition.

Marty Irons has been practicing as a pharmacist for over 17 years. He was one the first pharmacists to obtain his credentials as a Certified Diabetes Educator. He has practiced in various aspects of healthcare including in community pharmacies, the military, and industry.

Mr. Irons has been the recipient of numerous awards including: the New York State Young Pharmacist of the Year; The Orange County Diabetes Coalition Educator of the Year; The Pharmacist Society of Orange County Pharmacist of the Year; and a 3 time recipient of Pharmacist Society of the State of New York Special Recognition Awards.

Serving as a Coalition member, Marty has presented programs on diabetes and medications to groups throughout Orange County.

Mr. Irons currently practices in Newburgh at a community pharmacy. He is married with 3 daughters.
