November, 2006 -

This award, which was presented by Orange County Executive Edward Diana, is given annually to individuals who have demonstrated 'distinguished service to residents of Orange County in the area of diabetes care'. The Nominating Committee of the DPC program, which is made up of Coalition members representing organizations and health agencies throughout Orange County, reviews the nominations and chose Ms. Gold, a founding member of the Coalition, for this special recognition.

Ms. Gold, a dedicated health professional, began her work as a Diabetes Educator nearly 20 years ago, when she founded and directed the Diabetes Support Group at Cornwall Hospital. Her experience with the program served as the model for the current Orange County program; her guidance has been considered essential to its success. She continued to coordinate this group until her departure from the Hospital in 2002, offering individual and group education to patients in Cornwall and also providing training to the Hospital nursing staff. She was a member of the American Diabetes Association Westchester/Rockland Regional Board in the early 90's and organized the Teaching Day for patients in Rockland County.

Ms. Gold earned her Bachelor's in Nursing from the University of Vermont. She became a Certified Diabetes Educator in 1994 and went on to earn her Adult Nurse Practitioner degree from Mount Saint Mary College in 2002, the same year she joined the staff at Hudson River HealthCare. Presently, she provides consultation to the HRHCare medical staff and helps to coordinate patient care for people with diabetes throughout Hudson River HealthCare's nine county service area. In addition to this work, Ms. Gold also works with Dr. Meryl Reichman, in an endocrinology practice in Newburgh.

Hudson River HealthCare is proud of Ms Gold's superior efforts and is delighted to announce this well-deserved recognition. For more information on Ms. Gold's accolade or any of Hudson River HealthCare's efforts to curb the spread of diabetes through our communities, please call 845-778-2700.
